The next Bristol bookfair collective meeting is on Tuesday 24 February, at 7.30pm. It takes place at Kebele social centre, 14 Robertson Rd, Bristol BS5 6JY. All anarchists with an interest in helping put on a 2009 Bristol Bookfair, and related events, are welcome.
We aim to hold the 2009 Bookfair in the middle of September, and are also looking to hold a number of events in the week running up to the bookfair – film night, public meeting, comedy/cabaret night, maybe theatre, something on local radical history, quiz night, and so on. If you or your group would be interested in running such an event, under the bookfair umbrella, then please get in touch.
At this meeting we’ll consider possible venues for the bookfair, the content of the bookfair, as well as finance and publicity. We are currently also holding about 1 public event a month. The following events are coming up:
In March – a discussion meeting on ‘anarchist identity’, as seen by both anarchists and non-anarchists.
March 29 at 8pm – the first Bookfair fundraiser, at The Junction pub on Stokes Croft. A punky night with Cross-Stitched-Eyes, the A-Heads, and Jesus Bruiser. £5 on the door. More info.
April 23 at 7.30pm – an event under the title ‘Cant pay, Wont pay’ with speakers and a film. This will be at The Cube cinema, £2/3 on the door (but nobody turned away though lack of funds).
Lastly some of us will be helping out with Bristol’s Big Greek Benefit for Greek defendants & prisoners, on 28 March at a central Bristol location. More info to follow.
If you have any bright ideas for the bookfair, get in touch.
